The Canary Islands Institute of Technology

The Canary Islands Institute of Technology installs a mixed plant with solar panels and Enair mini wind turbine.

The Technological Institute of the Canary Islands, investigates the development of different renewable technologies and installs a mixed plant that combines photovoltaic and wind power to determine uses and applications of the combination of both technologies.

The solar panels are already a consolidated renewable source and are in a phase of great development and evolution, nevertheless the mini wind technology with which up til now they have been doing performance tests on, made clear that this technology needed a strong impulse in their technological evolution. Last November the installation of an Enair 70 Wind Turbine was set in motion, after analysing the evolution that it presented in terms of its robustness and efficiency of work.

After several months of both installations working (solar and mini wind power) together it is evident as the results show that the powers are similar in sites with contrasting wind, the mini wind turbine manages to generate more kwh than solar with much less space. Obviously the production of wind is subject to wind conditions and not all sites meet these characteristics, its main advantage is that it can work day and night, 24 hours.

The installation is fully monitored so that you can see the simultaneous production of the solar plant and the mini wind turbine, from the Sunny portal.

You can see the current and photographed production on:

The results of the installation indicate that in a place such as Arinaga, where the wind at the height of the axis is located at an approximate annual average of about 6.8 m / s, the ENAIR 70 production can reach 8400 kwh / year . This data is indicative of the advantages and the multiple applications that may be used by mini wind turbines in isolated environments connected to the grid.
